Warren G has recorded a digital single in memory of longtime friend, and 213 bandmate Nate Dogg
(Los Angeles, CA – April 29, 2011 /2SPR) – Warren G has released a tribute to Nate Dogg, the legendary hip-hop singer who passed away last month, aged 41. All proceeds from the single will benefit Nate Dogg’s family.
Long Beach rapper/producer Warren G recorded “This Is Dedicated To You”, as a heartfelt tribute to his lifelong friend and musical partner. The song, which features soul singer LaToiya Williams, finds Warren paying homage to Nate, reflecting on the late G-Funk pioneer’s legacy, envisioning how the world will be without his presence. “A true artist indeed, you made your own lane / All these albums we drop will never be the same / Without your voice on ‘em / I’m thinkin’ that’s the key / Choked up, smoked out, riding to these melodies,” he raps.
Nate Dogg, real name Nathaniel Hale, began his career as a rap trio in Long Beach called 213 (Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg and Warren G ) in the early 1990s. With one of the most distinct voices in hip-hop, he exploded onto the music scene as Warren G’s partner-in-crime on the hit “Regulate.”
The four-time Grammy nominee went on to feature on such hits as 50 Cent’s “21 Questions”, Dr. Dre’s “The Next Episode,” Eminem’s “Shake That” and “Area Codes” by Ludacris. In addition to appearing on every great rap album from The Chronic to Doggystyle to All Eyez on Me to Get Rich or Die Tryin’, Nate released two solo albums of his own, which included Billboard hit singles such as “Never Leave Me Alone” w/ Snoop Dogg, “Nobody Does It Better” w/ Warren G and “I Got Love.”
Nate Dogg’s monotone crooning anchored some of rap’s most seminal songs and helped define the sound of West coast hip-hop.
“This Is Dedicated To You”, available now at all digital retailers. Proceeds go directly to Nate Dogg’s mother, and the Nate Dogg Foundation.
